Track ID | Flight of the Phoenix
The phoenix, a creature that symbolizes resurruction. Burning itself on a funeral pyre and rising from the ashes with renewed youth to live another cycle.
After seeing the images for the first time we felt that the sound and power of a complete symphonic orchestra would be the best way to support the scenic shots in the ‘Flight of the Phoenix’ film.
To get there though, we started with the basics. Using only a piano, the fundamental ideas of the score were created; A constant steady pulse in tempo and rhythm, a melody and harmony that starts of trapped and seeks to break free. When it eventually does open up, it keeps on rising until overreaching, falling back down, and starting over again.
After the piano reduction was completed, we turned to orchestration. We went the old-fashioned way and used pen and paper (digitally of course). We chose to make an eccentric combination of marimba, harp, violin and bassoon to start our flight.
Finally, we put all the separate parts into our software and after sampling, tracking, mixing and mastering we had made our Flight of the Phoenix.
